Da Silva wins Zambia Open
May 19, 2013 - 5:29 PM Lusaka, Zambia (Sports Network) - Adilson da Silva carded an even-par 73 on Sunday and claimed a 1-stroke victory at the Zambia Open.Da Silva, the overnight leader and 2010 titlist at this event, finished 72 holes at 11-under 281, one shot ahead of Alex Haindl (70) and Martin du Toit (72) at Lusaka Golf Club.
"It's absolutely great to seal the win," said da Silva, who secured his 11th Sunshine Tour title. "Mentally it was a big thing to stay calm today and focus. I've been in this situation a couple of times, and I'm learning how to handle it."
Doug McGuigan, the 2011 Zambia Open champion, recorded a final-round 74 and ended in a tie for fourth place with Desne van den Bergh (73), Titch Moore (71), Ryan Cairns (69) and Anthony Michael (67) at 9-under.
The 41-year-old da Silva entered the final round with a 1-stroke lead and held the advantage, countering three bogeys with a hatrick of birdies en route to the narrow victory.
