SNOQUALMIE, Washington (Ticker) - Looking for his third win of the season, Denis Watson returns to defend the title at the Boeing Classic.
The $1.6 million Champions Tour event starts Friday at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.
Last year Watson had to work overtime for the win as a seven-way playoff was needed to determine the champion. Watson finished 54 holes at 9-under 207 and eventually defeated Craig Stadler and R.W. Eaks on the second extra hole after four players were eliminated after the first hole.
Watson went on to win Rookie of the Year honors on the Champions Tour last season and has had a successful sophomore season as well. With two victories this season, Watson is currently 15th on the Charles Schwab Cup points list.
Jay Haas and Bernhard Langer continue to fight it out at the top of the Schwab Cup rankings. With his tie for third last week at the JELD-WEN Tradition, Haas regained the lead by only 98 points over Langer.
Langer is the only player to finish in the top 10 in all four Champions Tour majors this year. There is still one to play as the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship will be held in early October.
First prize is $240,000.
