SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Chris Stroud moved to the top of the leaderboard through the second round at the Texas Open.

Stroud shot a 6-under-par 64 on Friday, taking a two-stroke lead at La Cantera Golf Club's Resort Course in the $4.5 million event.

Entering the day in a tie for 10th place, Stroud registered seven birdies to just one bogey to finish 10-under after the second round.

Stroud, 26, birdied the first hole but collected a bogey on the next hole.

The Lamar University product was nearly flawless from there, birdying three more holes before the turn and then picking up another three birdies on the back nine.

"Everything has been coming around," Stroud said. "I've been working real hard this year. I've been struggling with some injuries this year. Hurt my knee at Pebble. When I hurt it, got it looked at, MRI, no big deal there but I tend to end up being tendinitis.

"I've been icing it for three, four months straight and it finally is coming around. I've been able to practice normally. So, all that practice is starting to pay off and it's a little late. I wish it would have happened a few weeks ago or a few months ago. I'm really starting to hit the ball better."

Paul Goydos, Tim Petrovic and Tim Herron are currently tied for second at 8-under. Goydos shot a 4-under 66 for the second straight day, while Petrovic turned in a 5-under 65 and Herron delivered a 67.

"Anytime you're within two to four shots of the lead going to the weekend, you feel you're in good shape," Herron said. "Unless you're following Tiger."

Nathan Green, who held the lead entering play Friday, followed up his impressive 8-under 62 on Thursday with a 75.

Kevin Streelman enjoyed the best day, shooting a 29 on the front nine and finishing with a 7-under 63. He is among nine players tied for fourth at 7-under.

"Definitely getting off to the start I did, got me going, got me excited, got the juices flowing a little bit," Streelman said.

Matt Jones, Olin Browne, Rory Sabbatini, Jimmy Walker, Michael Thompson and Joe Ogilvie all finished 36 holes tied with Streelman.

One of the oldest stops on the PGA Tour, the Texas Open is the third of seven Fall Series events on the schedule. The event will move to a spring date next season and be a part of a three-event tour swing through the Lone Star State.

Defending champion Justin Leonard barely made the cut and is among a group of eight players tied for 68th at 1-under. A Texas native, Leonard defeated Jesper Parnevik on the third hole of a playoff here in 2007.

First prize is $810,000.
