Belmont Stakes next for Union Rags
May 11, 2012 - 8:33 PM Elmont, NY (Sports Network) - Union Rags, the 5-1 second choice for last week's Kentucky Derby, will make his next start in the $1 million Belmont Stakes on June 9. The colt finished seventh in the Run for the Roses after racing near the back of the 20 horse field."He came out of the race fine," said trainer Michael Matz. "He's been galloping the past two days. We won't know for certain for a couple of weeks, but I would imagine if everything goes fine, we'll look for the Belmont."
Owned by Chadds Ford Stable, Union Rags was third as the 2-5 favorite in the Florida Derby and started the year with a solid win in the Fountain of Youth Stakes. He was ridden by Julien Leparoux in all three starts.
The three-year-old colt has won four of seven career races for $1,198,800.
