Bodemeister in, Hansen out of Preakness
May 14, 2012 - 5:48 PM Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Kentucky Derby runner-up Bodemeister will start in Saturday's Preakness Stakes at Pimlico while champion colt Hansen will be kept out of the second leg of racing's Triple Crown.Trainer Bob Baffert and owner Ahmed Zayat confirmed Monday morning that Bodemeister, the 4-1 favorite in the Run for the Roses, will be entered in the 137th Preakness versus Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another.
With Mike Smith in the saddle, Bodemeister set the pace through the first 1 1/8 miles of the Run for the Roses. Santa Anita Derby champ I'll Have Another, ridden by Mario Gutierrez, caught the favorite inside the furlong pole and went on to win by 1 1/2 lengths.
Dr. Kendall Hansen, owner of Hansen, said last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner will be held out of the Preakness after finishing ninth in the Kentucky Derby.
Trained by Mike Maker, the nearly all white colt will make his next start on June 9 in the $400,000 Woody Stephens Stakes on the Belmont Stakes card.
