Daddy Nose Best and Pretension set for Preakness

May 15, 2012 - 7:19 PM Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Sunland Derby winner Daddy Nose Best and local runner Pretension have been confirmed to start in Saturday's 137th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course. The middle jewel of racing's Triple Crown looks to have a 12 horse field.

Daddy Nose Best, 10th in the Kentucky Derby, will make the trip from Churchill Downs to Pimlico for the $1 million Preakness. Trained by Steve Asmussen, the colt is owned by Cathy and Bob Zollars and will again be ridden by Garrett Gomez.

Asmussen has claimed two recent runnings of the Preakness with Curlin (2007) and Rachel Alexandra (2009) while Gomez will be seeking his first.

Pretension comes into the race off a victory in Pimlico's Canonero II Stakes on May 5. The three-year-old is owned by Irving Kidwell and trained by Chris Grove.

"I think the delay in the decision came down to that he didn't want to run if he wasn't going to be there," said Grove concerning the 87-year-old Kidwell who resides in Annapolis. "I think he'll come to the track around 4 or 5 o'clock and be there for the race."

The field for the 1 3/16 mile Preakness is currently composed of I'll Have Another, Bodemeister, Went the Day Well, Creative Cause, Daddy Nose Best, Pretension, Cozzetti, Teeth of the Dog, Tiger Walk, Zetterholm, Optimizer and Guyana Star Dweej.

The post position draw for the Preakness will take place Wednesday afternoon.
