Orb stabled at Pimlico for Saturday's main event

May 14, 2013 - 7:23 PM Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Kentucky Derby winner Orb made his way to Pimlico Race Course from Belmont Park Monday afternoon for a chance to secure the second leg of racing's Triple Crown.

Trained by Shug McGaughey, Orb walked the shedrow at Pimlico Tuesday morning. giving his trainer all he could handle.

"He had a lot of energy. I walked him a few turns and had to give him up," McGaughey said. "So far, so good. I worried a little bit yesterday coming down here: 'Am I going too early?' But I'm glad we got in here while it's still good and quiet and got settled in. He had a good night and a nice morning. Everything is good."

Owned by Stuart Janney III and Phipps Stable, Orb will be the Hall of Fame trainer's first starter in the 1 3/16-mile Preakness since 1989 when Easy Goer lost by a nose to Sunday Silence.

"As soon as I got here, it all came back to me - where I needed to be, where I was going," he said. "I feel like I'm back on familiar ground, and I'm tickled to death to be here."

Govenor Charlie, trained by Bob Baffert, will be running in the Preakness after his workout Monday at Churchill Downs.

"He came out of his work really, really well," said Baffert. "We are prepared to go."

Baffert, a five-time winner of the Preakness, will make his way to Baltimore from California on Thursday. He saddled Silver Charm (1997), Real Quiet (1998), Point Given (2001), War Emblem (2002) and Lookin At Lucky (2010) to victories in the race. Last year, he finished second with Bodemeister.

Goldencents, trained by Doug O'Neill, has been at Pimlico for a week and is expected to improve off his 17th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby.

"I feel we have a good chance to win again; if we get a good trip, I think we can win," said O'Neill, who won last year's race with I'll Have Another. "Shug's (McGaughey) a Hall of Fame trainer. (Orb) is a Triple Crown threat for sure."

Coming in from Monmouth Park Tuesday afternoon will be Florida Derby runner-up Itsmyluckyday. Trained by Ed Plesa Jr., the colt jogged Tuesday morning at Monmouth before vanning to Baltimore.

D. Wayne Lukas put his three Preakness contenders into a van Tuesday morning for the trip from Churchill Downs to Pimlico.

The Hall of Fame trainer won the Preakness with Codex (1980), Tank's Prospect (1985), Tabasco Cat (1994), Timber Country (1995) and Charismatic (1999).

Mylute, fifth in the Run for the Roses, walked the shedrow Tuesday at Churchill Downs for trainer Tom Amoss.

"He came out of the (Monday's) work good and will jog in the morning," Amoss said.

Illinois Derby winner Departing will also be shipping in from Louisville. Trained by Al Stall Jr., the 3-year-old galloped a mile Tuesday.

"We may come out a little later in the morning," Stall said. "He may stand in the little gate (in the mile chute) and then gallop a mile and a half."
