Animal Kingdom has workout for Royal Ascot's Queen Anne Stakes
May 15, 2013 - 7:08 PM Ascot, England (Sports Network) - Animal Kingdom, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup, put in a workout Wednesday in England as he prepares for the Queen Anne Stakes on June 18 at Royal Ascot.Trained by Graham Motion, the 5-year-old worked five furlongs in 1:03.
"Animal Kingdom had a nice breeze today at his new base in Lambourn. He's getting used to breezing up a gradual incline," the trainer tweeted.
The Queen Anne Stakes is a one-mile turf race.
On March 30, Animal Kingdom scored a two-length victory in the Dubai World Cup to go along with his 2011 Kentucky Derby win. In 11 career starts, the 5-year- old has been first five times and second five more times for $8,387,500.
Following the Queen Anne Stakes, Animal Kingdom will shuttle between Australia for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season and to Barley's Jonabell Farm in , Kentucky for Northern Hemisphere stud duty.
