Last Gunfighter shoots to victory in Pimlico Special

May 17, 2013 - 11:01 PM Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Odds-on favorite Last Gunfighter notched his sixth straight win by claiming Friday's $300,000 Pimlico Special at Pimlico Race Course. The 1 3/16-mile race was conducted at the same distance as Saturday's Preakness Stakes.

Trained by Chad Brown, Last Gunfighter was never far off the pace with Javier Castellano in the saddle. At the quarter-pole, the 4-year-old colt was second, three lengths behind Eighttofasttocatch.

Last Gunfighter, the 3-5 favorite, ran down the leader with 200 yards to go and went on to post a 4 1/4-length victory over Eighttofasttocatch.

Richard's Kid was third, 9 1/4 lengths behind the second-place finisher, followed by Indian Dance, Concealed Identity and Brimstone Island. Avenida Paseo was scratched.

The Pimlico Special was won in a time of 1:58.50 over a fast track.

Owned by John Gunther, Last Gunfighter has posted wins in four straight stakes and picks up another $180,000. The colt has not lost since breaking his maiden last October and has earnings of $475,405 in 10 career starts.

Last Gunfighter came into the Pimlico Special off a victory in the Excelsior Stakes on March 23 at Aqueduct.

Last Gunfighter paid $3.20, $2.10 and $2.10. Eighttofasttocatch returned $3.00 and $2.10, Richard's Kid paid $2.20 to show.
