Sheffield says hamstring feels better

Jul 18, 2009 - 7:43 PM ATLANTA(AP) -- Gary Sheffield says his sore right hamstring feels better and should not keep him out of the New York Mets' lineup very long.

Sheffield did not start Saturday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Manager Jerry Manuel said Sheffield might be used as a pinch-hitter.

Sheffield left Friday night's game with cramping in the hamstring.

He said Saturday that it may have been caused by heat and dehydration, adding the hamstring is still "a little sore."

Jeremy Reed replaced Sheffield in left field on Friday night and started on Saturday.
