Milwaukee right-hander Smith hit in face by ball
Oct 1, 2009 - 10:01 PM DENVER(AP) -- Milwaukee Brewers right-handed reliever Chris Smith left the game after he was struck in the face by a bouncer off the bat of Eric Young Jr. in the eighth inning Thursday.The ball bounced off Smith's glove and into his face as it came out of the shadows in front of the mound. Young ended up with an infield single.
The Brewers' medical staff ran out to see Smith, who walked off on his own with a towel to his mouth and nose. He was replaced by right-hander Todd Coffey.
