X-rays show no broken bone in Gonzalez's hand
Oct 3, 2009 - 11:22 PM BOSTON(AP) -- Alex Gonzalez might play in Boston's final regular-season game Sunday after X-rays on his right hand were negative. The Red Sox shortstop was hit on the side of the hand by a pitch from Kerry Wood in the eighth inning of a 6-2 win over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.
An X-ray on Friday night showed a line on the bone, but additional X-rays taken Saturday revealed no fracture, Gonzalez said. Jed Lowrie started in his place Saturday night.
Manager Terry Francona said Gonzalez probably would play Sunday if he feels all right but would sit out if there's any doubt.
The Red Sox open the AL division series at the Los Angeles Angels next week.
