Yankees OF Abreu out two weeks with oblique injury
Feb 26, 2007 - 8:42 PM TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- New York Yankees outfielder Bobby Abreu will miss about two weeks with a strained right oblique muscle, manager Joe Torre said Monday.According to the club's official website, Abreu suffered the injury while taking batting practice at Legends Field.
"It's just one of those things," Torre said. "I guess the good news is that it's early and you can afford a couple of weeks now."
Torre also said Abreu's status for Opening Day is not in jeopardy. The Yankees open their season against Tampa Bay on April 2.
Abreu, 32, took over as the Yankees' every day right fielder last season after being acquired from Philadelphia on July 30. He batted .330 with seven homers and 42 RBI in 58 games with the Yankees.
A two-time All-Star and the winner of the Home Run Derby in 2005, Abreu is a career .302 hitter with 205 homers and 883 RBI in 1,485 games.
