Matsuzaka feeling better but waiting on decision
Mar 14, 2010 - 10:36 PM FORT MYERS, Fla.(AP) -- Daisuke Matsuzaka said Sunday he's feeling better but is waiting to make a decision on when he'll have his first throwing session of spring training.A day after he was scratched from throwing batting practice because of a stiff neck, the Red Sox right-hander played catch for about 10 minutes from 60 feet.
"I feel a little bit better than yesterday," Matsuzaka said. "But I discussed things with the coaches and trainers and the decision was to give it one more day. Beyond tomorrow, we are going to see based on how I feel tomorrow."
The Red Sox made their first round of roster moves Sunday, reassigning 11 players to minor league camp and optioning Jose Iglesias to Double-A Portland.
The reassigned players are right-handed pitchers Randor Bierd, Casey Kelly, Robert Manuel, Adam Mills and Kyle Weiland, left-handed pitcher Kris Johnson, catcher Luis Exposito, infielders Lars Anderson and Yamaico Navarro, and outfielders Ryan Kalish and Che-Hsuan Lin.
With the moves, the Red Sox now have 46 players in big league camp, including 38 players from the 40-man roster and eight non-roster invitees.
No one has shouted yet.
