Brewers 3B Gamel out 6 weeks with shoulder injury
Mar 18, 2010 - 11:31 PM SURPRISE, Ariz.(AP) -- Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Mat Gamel will be out at least six weeks because of a torn muscle in his right shoulder, team officials said Thursday. An MRI performed Wednesday revealed what the team said is a "slight" tear in his latissimus dorsi, the large muscle behind the right shoulder.
Gamel last played March 8 against Seattle but left in the third inning after a throw to third base. He since has been limited to taking ground balls in drills and hasn't thrown or swung a bat in 10 days.
The 23-year-old hit .242 with five homers and 20 RBIs in 61 games for the Brewers last season.
