Tigers place LHP Rogers on DL with tired arm

Mar 29, 2007 - 3:21 PM LAKELAND, Florida (Ticker) -- Kenny Rogers defied Father Time last season. Perhaps it has caught up to him.

The Detroit Tigers on Thursday placed Rogers on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Sunday, with a tired arm.

Rogers, 42, enjoyed an outstanding 2006 season for the American League champion Tigers, going 17-8 with a 3.84 ERA while starting for the junior circuit in the All-Star Game.

The lefthander saved his best for the postseason, winning all three of his starts and not allowing a run over 23 innings.

But despite posting a 2.05 ERA in five outings this spring, Rogers will not start the regular season with the Tigers, who cannot activate the 18-year veteran until April 9.

To fill Rogers' spot on the active roster, the Tigers recalled lefthander Bobby Seay from minor league camp. Seay has recorded a 2.53 ERA in nine relief appearances this spring.
