Yankees bring back Berkman, make Sept. callups
Sep 1, 2010 - 10:46 PM NEW YORK(AP) -- The New York Yankees reinstated designated hitter Lance Berkman from the 15-day disabled list and called up three players from the minors to take advantage of expanded September rosters.Right-handed reliever Jonathan Albaladejo and outfielder Greg Golson were recalled from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and catcher Chad Moeller's contract was purchased from the Triple-A club.
Berkman made two rehab starts with Double-A Trenton after spraining his right ankle. He was put on the DL on Aug. 18 with the move retroactive to Aug. 16.
Manager Joe Girardi says he plans to use Berkman mostly as a designated hitter and fill-in first baseman. He says Golson will most likely pinch-run and play defense.
