Padres place OF Giles on disabled list

May 26, 2007 - 11:43 PM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres placed outfielder Brian Giles on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a right knee contusion.

The move is retroactive to May 20.

Giles, 36, is hitting .276 with one homer in 42 games for the Padres this season. He has reached base safely in 37 of his 42 games and recorded a team-high-tying 15 multi-hit games.

Acquired by San Diego from the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2003, Giles has batted .282 with 57 homers and 290 RBI in 546 games with the Padres. In 1,560 career games over parts of 13 seasons with Cleveland, Pittsburgh and San Diego, Giles has a career average of .294 with 261 home runs and 953 RBI.

To fill Giles' place on the roster, the Padres recalled infielder/outfielder Paul McAnulty from Portland (AAA).

The 26-year-old made San Diego's Opening Day roster and hit .125 (1-for-8) with a double and a run scored in eight games before he was optioned to Portland on April 18.
