Brewers 1B Fielder named NL Player of the Month
Jun 4, 2007 - 11:51 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder on Monday was named National League Player of the Month for May.The 23-year-old Fielder hit 13 home runs, had a .755 slugging percentage, and collected 28 RBI for the Brewers, who went 14-15 in May, but still maintain a comfortable lead in the NL Central.
The 6-0, 260-pound slugger, who batted .321, leads the league in home runs (19) and is second in the majors only to New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (20) in homers.
This is the first career NL Player of the Month award for Prince, who had two multi-homer games and seven multi-RBI games in the month.
Other players considered for the award were Fielder's Brewers teammate J.J. Hardy, who hit nine homers, Cincinnati outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. who belted 10, as well as outfielder Carlos Lee of the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal.
