Cards' Beltran wins NL Player of the Week

May 14, 2012 - 8:07 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran was named National League Player of the Week for the period ending May 13.

Beltran hit a robust .360 with Senior Circuit highs of six home runs, 13 RBI, eight runs scored, 30 total bases and a whopping 1.200 slugging percentage to earn his ninth career weekly honor. The native of Puerto Rico hit safely in five of his six games last week, going deep in four of those.

The 13-year pro also tied a career-best with his four-hit performance (falling a single shy of the cycle) in a 9-7, 12-inning loss against Atlanta this past Friday. The 13 total bases set a new career high, and was the most for one player since Braves third baseman Chipper Jones did so in August of 2006.

Other players considered for the weekly honor were Cardinals teammates Allen Craig and Rafael Furcal; Cincinnati's Joey Votto; Miami outfielder Giancarlo Stanton and Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier.
