Cardinals send P Westbrook to 15-day DL
May 12, 2013 - 5:06 PM St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals placed pitcher Jake Westbrook on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of right elbow inflammation.The move is retroactive to May 9.
Westbrook has been solid for the Cardinals this season, going 2-1 with a 1.62 earned run average over seven starts. He led the majors in ERA after the month of April and has also fanned 19 batters over 39 innings pitched.
St. Louis plans to purchase pitcher John Gast from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday where the left-hander will make his MLB debut versus the New York Mets. Gast is 3-1 this season with Memphis and has a 1.16 ERA over six starts.
