Report: Cubs, Rizzo agree to multi-year extension

May 13, 2013 - 3:36 AM (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs and first baseman Anthony Rizzo have reportedly reached an agreement on a seven-year contract extension.

The pact, which was first reported by Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, is worth a reported $41 million and will keep the left-handed slugger in Chicago until 2019, with two club options that could extend the deal to 2021, according to multiple reports.

Rizzo, who turns 24 on Aug. 8, is hitting .280 with nine home runs and 28 RBI through 37 games this season, his second with the Cubs since being acquired from the San Diego Padres on Jan. 6, 2012.

The Florida native clubbed 15 homers and knocked in 48 runs over 87 games during his first season in Chicago.

A sixth-round pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2007, Rizzo is a career .253 hitter with 25 homers and 85 RBI over 173 games with the Padres and Cubs.
