Cubs make long-term pact with Rizzo official

May 13, 2013 - 4:36 PM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs made it official with Anthony Rizzo, agreeing to terms on a seven-year contract with the first baseman.

The deal is reportedly worth $41 million and includes club options for 2020 and 2021. It covers his arbitration years as well as the first year of free agency and two more free agent seasons if both options are exercised.

Rizzo is batting .280 through 37 games this season, his second with the Cubs since being acquired in a trade from San Diego on Jan. 6, 2012.

The 23-year-old is tied for the league lead among first basemen with nine homers in 2013 and his 28 RBI rank second.

Rizzo clubbed 15 homers and knocked in 48 runs while hitting .285 over 87 games last season with the Cubs.
