Report: Cardinals' Garcia to have season-ending surgery
May 22, 2013 - 7:44 PM St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Jaime Garcia will reportedly undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the surgery will take place Friday by team physician Dr. George Paletta. Garcia visited Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday morning.
Garcia, who was limited to just 20 regular-season starts and 121 2/3 innings last season due to shoulder woes, was 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA in nine starts this year before being placed on the 15-day disabled list this past weekend.
The 26-year-old Garcia is expected to return to the mound for the Cardinals next year.
