Cardinals send Salas to DL, promote Lyons
May 22, 2013 - 8:12 PM San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals placed relief pitcher Fernando Salas on the 15-day disabled list to make room on the roster for Tyler Lyons, who is set to make his major league debut as the starter for Wednesday's game at San Diego.Lyons is taking the rotation spot of Jaime Garcia, who is set to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder later this week, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The 25-year-old Lyons earned the promotion by going 2-1 with a 4.47 earned run average in eight starts for Triple-A Memphis this season. The left-hander will become the fourth hurler to make his big league debut for St. Louis in 2013.
Salas is dealing with inflammation in his right shoulder. The Mexican righty went 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA over 15 appearances prior to the injury.
