Rangers release P Lowe
May 23, 2013 - 5:34 PM Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers placed pitcher Derek Lowe on waivers on Thursday with the purpose of granting him his unconditional release.Lowe was designated for assignment on Monday, a day after giving up two runs in two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen in an 11-8 win over Detroit. He had surrendered eight runs over his last 2 2/3 innings of work.
The 39-year-old made nine relief appearances for Texas after signing a minor league contract with the club on March 9. He allowed 13 runs over 13 innings.
In other roster related news, the Rangers agreed to terms on a minor league deal with infielder/outfielder Mark Teahen. The 31-year-old will report to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.
Teahen was released from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. He never played for the major league club, producing a .211 batting average with five RBI in 22 games with Triple-A Reno.
A lifetime .264 hitter, Teahen has recorded 67 homers and knocked in 332 runs in 831 career games over seven seasons.
