Orioles make roster moves
May 23, 2013 - 9:33 PM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles selected the contract of pitcher Kevin Gausman from Double-A Bowie, optioned pitcher Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk and designating pitcher Alex Burnett for assignment.Gausman, the fourth overall pick in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, will make his major league debut in Toronto on Thursday.
The 22-year-old right-hander is 2-4 with a 3.11 ERA in eight starts with Bowie this season. He has 49 strikeouts and just five walks over 46 1/3 innings.
Arrieta is 1-1 with a 6.63 ERA in four starts with the Orioles. He was optioned to Norfolk on April 22 and was recalled on May 18, but has not pitched since.
Burnett made two appearances with Baltimore this season. He gave up three runs on four hits and two walks over 1 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays on April 12 and was recalled twice before being sent down to Norfolk on May 18.
