Orioles send Strop to DL
May 25, 2013 - 8:23 PM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles placed reliever Pedro Strop on the 15-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.Strop, a key member of the bullpen during Baltimore's run to the American League playoffs last season, has been dealing with a lower back strain. The right-hander has struggled mightily thus far in 2013, posting an 0-2 record along with a 6.11 earned run average in 22 appearances and issuing 14 walks in 17 2/3 innings pitched.
To fill the roster spot, the Orioles recalled pitcher Steve Johnson from Triple-A Norfolk.
Johnson went 4-0 with a 2.11 ERA in 12 games (4 starts) with Baltimore last season, but has spent the majority of this year in the minors. The 25-year-old compiled a 1-2 mark with a 5.49 ERA in four starts with Norfolk.
