Tigers C Rodriguez suspended one game
Jul 14, 2007 - 4:12 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) - Major League Baseball on Saturday suspended Detroit Tigers catcher Ivan Rodriguez for one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for his inappropriate actions during the Tigers' game against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field on Thursday.Rodriguez was tossed after making contact with plate umpire Mike Winter while arguing that he was obstructed by Seattle's Yuniesky Betancourt when trying to throw out Adrian Beltre at second in the fourth inning.
Rodriguez, who has eight home runs and 46 RBI, is batting .299 in 73 games for the Tigers this season.
Unless appealed, Rodriguez's suspension is scheduled to be served Saturday, when the Tigers continue their series against the Mariners. If appealed, the suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
