Rockies' Gonzalez named NL Player of the Week

Jun 17, 2013 - 8:53 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has been named National League Payer of the Week for the period ending June 16. It is his fourth career weekly honor, the first of this season.

The Venezuelan-born slugger led the Majors with a 1.095 slugging percentage while he was tops in the National League with 23 total bases, second-most in the Majors. Gonzalez was tied for first in the league with three home runs and ranked second with eight RBI, in six games last week.

He leads the N.L. with 20 homers and his 28 multi-hit games lead the Majors as well.

On Tuesday, Gonzalez clubbed a go-ahead three-run shot with the score tied 2-2 in the fifth against the Washington Nationals. He went 4-for-4 with a home run on Friday against Philadelphia.

Other players considered for the award included his teammate Jhoulys Chacin, Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez and Gerrit Cole, San Francisco's Buster Posey, Yasiel Puig and Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington's Anthony Rendon and David Wright of the New York Mets.
