Tigers place Sanchez, Avila on DL
Jun 17, 2013 - 9:01 PM Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers placed pitcher Anibal Sanchez and catcher Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list Monday.Sanchez is 6-5 with a 2.76 earned run average in 13 starts this season. He last pitched Saturday against the Minnesota Twins, lasting just 3 2/3 innings before going down with a right shoulder strain.
Avila was batting .172 with five home runs and 13 RBI in 48 games. He exited Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Twins after getting hit by a pitch and is suffering from a contusion on his left forearm.
The Tigers also recalled catcher Bryan Holaday and outfielder Avisail Garcia from Triple-A Toledo.
Holaday, 25, hit .259 with two home runs and 15 RBI over 47 games with Toledo.
Garcia, 22, will be making his second stint with Detroit. He batted .288 with two home runs and 10 RBI over 24 games before being optioned to Toledo on Friday.
