Diamondbacks' P Kennedy drops appeal
Jun 18, 2013 - 2:38 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Ian Kennedy announced prior to Monday's three-game series opener versus Miami that he dropped his appeal and immediately began serving a 10-game suspension.Kennedy, 28, received the harshest punishment as a result of his involvement in a brawl between the Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers last Tuesday.
Kennedy plunked Yasiel Puig and Zack Greinke, with the latter partly setting off the benches-clearing melee. The length of the suspension is the longest issued to a pitcher since Kansas City's Runelvys Hernandez got 10 games in 2005.
The right-hander has a 3-4 record this season with a 5.21 ERA in 14 games.
