Phillies activate C Ruiz
Jun 18, 2013 - 5:49 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies activated catcher Carlos Ruiz from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and optioned catcher Steven Lerud to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.Ruiz sustained a grade 2 right hamstring strain while rounding second base in the second inning of a May 19 win against the Cincinnati Reds.
The 34-year old veteran hit .235 with two doubles and two RBI in 16 games. Ruiz missed the first 25 games of the year after he tested positive for a banned substance.
Lerud went hitless in five at bats over six games with the club while filling in for fellow backstop Erik Kratz, who was placed on the DL on June 10 with a medial meniscus tear in his left knee.
