Astros reinstate Maxwell from DL
Jun 18, 2013 - 8:45 PM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Houston Astros activated outfielder Justin Maxwell from the 15-day disabled list prior to Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.Maxwell has been sidelined since April 23, when the 29-year-old fractured his left hand after being hit by a pitch by Seattle's Hisashi Iwakuma. He will bat seventh and start in right field for Tuesday's matchup.
Prior to the injury, Maxwell was batting .234 with one home run and six RBI in 20 games, though he struck out 22 times in 77 at-bats. He also struggled in a recent rehab assignment in the minors, hitting just .128 with 11 strikeouts in 11 games between Double and Triple-A.
Maxwell did lead the Astros with a career-best 18 homers last season, while batting .229 with 53 RBI in 124 games.
Houston optioned outfielder Jimmy Paredes to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room for Maxwell on the active roster. The 24-year-old switch-hitter batted .190 with one homer and seven RBI in 31 games after being recalled from the minors in early May.
No one has shouted yet.
