Tigers OF Granderson named AL Player of the Week

Jul 16, 2007 - 8:27 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Detroit Tigers outfielder Curtis Granderson was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.

Granderson batted .500 (8-for-16) with two doubles, a triple and a home run this past week.

In a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners, Granderson scored seven runs and collected 15 total bases. He wrapped up his outstanding performance in Sunday's 11-7 victory, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a stolen base.

This is the first time the weekly honor has been given to Granderson, who is batting .293 with 13 homers, 45 RBI and 69 runs scored this season.

Other candidates receiving consideration were Bobby Abreu of the New Yok Yankees, Jermaine Dye of the Chicago White Sox, Erik Bedard of the Baltimore Orioles and Johan Santana of the Minnesota Twins.
