Report: Marlins suspend LHP Olsen two games

Jul 16, 2007 - 9:36 PM MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Florida Marlins on Monday suspended lefthander Scott Olsen for two games without pay, according to a report on the Miami Herald web site.

According to the newspaper, the Marlins suspended the temperamental starter for what manager Fredi Gonzalez said was "insubordination" and "conduct detrimental to the team."

Gonzalez and the Marlins refused to specify what led to the suspension and the 23-year-old will not be in uniform either Monday or Tuesday, according to the newspaper.

Olsen pitched five innings and earned the victory in Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals.

This is not the first time Olsen has been in trouble with the organization. Last year, he was involved in an altercation with former Marlin Randy Messenger and received a black eye.

In June, Olsen made an obscene gesture to fans in Milwaukee after being removed from the game and was fined an undisclosed amount.

According to the newspaper, Gonzalez said Olsen would make his next scheduled start, Friday against the Cincinnati Reds.
