Marlins LHP Olsen arrested

Jul 21, 2007 - 9:09 PM MIAMI (Ticker) -- Scott Olsen has found another kind of trouble.

The Florida Marlins lefthander was arrested early Saturday after refusing to pull over during a traffic stop.

Olsen, 23, was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest with violence and fleeing after eluding a police officer.

The arrest came hours after Olsen made his return from a two-game, team-imposed suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. He worked seven strong innings Friday night against the Cincinnati Reds, improving to 8-7 with a 4.99 ERA on the season.

According to police, an officer who was running a radar check in the area of 191st Street clocked Olsen speeding after 3 a.m. Olsen refused to pull over until he reached his home in Aventura, police said.

Once home, Olsen began fighting with officers and refused to take a breathalyzer.

The Florida Marlins issued a statement on Saturday afternoon.

"The Florida Marlins are aware of the charges facing Scott Olsen," the statement read. "As an organization, we take this very seriously and are extremely disappointed. We will let the legal process run its course and will have no further comment.

Getting in trouble is becoming routine for Olsen. Last year, he was involved in an altercation with former Marlin Randy Messenger and received a black eye.

In June of this season, Olsen made an obscene gesture to fans in Milwaukee after being removed from the game and was fined an undisclosed amount.
