Upton, Cano named AL Player of the Week

Jul 23, 2007 - 7:43 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Tampa Bay Devil Rays outfielder B.J. Upton and New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano were named co-American League Players of the Week on Monday.

Upton batted .414 (12-for-29) with three homers and eight RBI last week. He also scored eight runs and amassed 22 total bases.

In a four-game series against the Yankees, Upton went 8-for-19 with three homers and six RBI.

Cano enjoyed an even bigger week, batting .500 (17-for-34) with two homers and nine RBI. The second baseman helped the Yankees to a 6-2 mark for the week.

Cano hammered Tampa Bay pitching in the four-game series, going 11-for-18 with one homer and six RBI.

Alex Rodriguez and Hideki Matsui of the Yankees were among others who received consideration for the award.
