Padres RF Giles leaves game in fifth

Aug 2, 2007 - 7:43 AM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- San Diego Padres right fielder Brian Giles left Wednesday's 9-5, 11-inning victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth inning with a sprained right ankle.

Giles suffered the injury after crashing into the wall while making a leaping catch in the fifth. He stayed in the game but left after walking in the bottom of the frame.

He is doubtful for Thursday's game.

"I think it started swelling a bit and really got painful," Padres manager Bud Black said. "For Brian to come out in the middle of an inning, especially as a baserunner, he was in a lot of pain."
