Cano, Crawford named AL co-Players of the Week

Aug 6, 2007 - 8:30 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Tampa Bay Devil Rays outfielder Carl Crawford were named American League co-Players of the Week on Monday.

Cano hit .478 (11-for-23) with three home runs and nine RBI. The 24-year-old posted a .556 on-base percentage and a 1.087 slugging percentage for the Yankees, who went 5-1 this past week.

It marks the third weekly award this season for Cano, who is batting .309 with 11 home runs and 69 RBI.

Crawford batted .591 (13-for-22) with three home runs and six RBI, scoring eight runs and registering a 1.045 slugging percentage. The speedy left fielder is hitting .303 with nine home runs and 60 RBI this season.

Others considered for the award were Baltimore Orioles first baseman Aubrey Huff, Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, Chicago White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye and Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Baker.
