Tigers 2B Polanco sets major league record

Aug 14, 2007 - 5:09 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Placido Polanco of the Detroit Tigers set a major league record for second basemen by playing in his 144th consecutive errorless game against the Oakland Athletics on Monday.

Polanco broke a tie with Luis Castillo, who achieved the feat with the Minnesota Twins.

"It means a lot to me," Polanco said. "Nobody in the history of baseball has done it before." "I just wish it wasn't sure a tough day."

The record for infielders is 193, set by Steve Garvey, who accomplished the record while playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres from June 26-April 14.
