Brewers 1B Fielder's suspension reduced

Aug 24, 2007 - 8:55 PM SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The slumping Milwaukee Brewers will only be without All-Star Prince Fielder for two games, as his suspension of three games was reduced by Major League Baseball on Friday.

Fielder, who leads the National League with 39 home runs, received a three-game ban after being ejected from Milwaukee's 6-4 loss at Houston on August 12 for inappropriate and aggressive conduct while arguing a called third strike with plate umpire Wally Bell.

The 23-year-old Fielder will begin serving the suspension Friday night, when the Brewers visit the San Francisco Giants. He will be eligible to return for Sunday's series finale.

In 126 games this season, Fielder is hitting .283 with 31 doubles and a team-high 97 RBI.

The Brewers (65-62) enter Friday's contest one-half game behind the Chicago Cubs (65-61) in the NL Central Division. Milwaukee resided in first place for much of the first four months of the season but has gone into a slide recently, losing 11 of its last 16 games.
