Angels activate OF Rivera from 60-day disabled list

Sep 2, 2007 - 7:37 PM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Saturday activated outfielder Juan Rivera from the 60-day disabled list.

Rivera, 29, suffered a broken left tibia on December 22 in a winter league game in Venezuela. He was placed on the 15-day DL on March 31 and transferred to the 60-day list on April 26.

He began a rehabilitation assignment on August 13, hitting .282 with nine doubles and 19 RBI in 18 contests.

A seven-year veteran, Rivera is a .291 hitter with 58 homers and 255 RBI in 452 contests with three teams. He had his best season in 2006, posting career highs with a .310 average, 23 homers and 85 RBI in 124 games with the Angels.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Anaheim designated righthander Greg Jones for assignment. The 30-year-old Jones was 4-2 with a 4.86 ERA and three saves in 36 games with Class AAA Salt Lake of the Pacific Coast League.

He did not record a decision and posted a 6.24 ERA in two stints with the Angels this season.
