A's Jaso lands on concussion DL

Aug 25, 2014 - 6:48 PM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Oakland Athletics catcher John Jaso will be shut down for at least a week due to lingering symptoms from a concussion, the team announced Monday.

Jaso was placed on the 7-day concussion list retroactive to Sunday, with his unavailability prompting the A's to acquire veteran backstop Geovany Soto from Texas over the weekend.

According to the Athletics' official site, Jaso has been dealing with headaches and occasional nausea for about the past two weeks. The symptoms were caused when he was struck in his catcher's mask by a foul ball earlier this month.

Jaso has gone just 7-for-47 (.149) at the plate in August after batting .323 the previous month. For the season, he owns a .264 average with nine home runs ad 40 RBI in 99 games.

The 30-year-old has dealt with concussion issues in the past, having sat out the final two months of the 2013 campaign with similar problems.

Soto has been beset by injuries as well this season, with a knee procedure and a groin strain limiting him to just 10 games with the Rangers.
