Pirates send Cole to Single A

Aug 29, 2014 - 10:52 PM Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Friday that starter Gerrit Cole was optioned to Single-A Bristol while infielder/outfielder Andrew Lambo was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Cole was activated from the 15-day disabled list on August 20, and recalled him from his rehab assignment in Indy. He made two starts since then, both no- decisions against Atlanta and St. Louis, allowing four earned runs and eight hits with 15 strikeouts and five walks over 13 innings.

Cole had been suffering from right lat soreness which kept him out of action for nearly two months. The 23-year-old right-hander has put together a 7-4 record with a 3.42 earned run average in 16 starts this season.

The Pirates recalled Lambo, who hit .233 with one homer and two RBI over an 18-game stint with the Bucs from mid-August to late September last season. The 26-year-old put together a .328 average, 11 homers, 19 doubles and drove in 42 over 61 games with Indianapolis this year.
