Nats' Zimmermann earns NL weekly award
Sep 29, 2014 - 8:02 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Washington Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann was named National League Player of the Week for the final week of the season after throwing a no-hitter in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Miami Marlins. The right-hander notched his first career no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking just one.
Zimmermann became just the fifth pitcher in franchise history (since 1969) to throw a no-hitter and first since Dennis Martinez did it on July 28, 1991. It was the franchise's first no-hitter since moving from Montreal to Washington in 2005.
It was the second career weekly award for the Wisconsin native, who previously won earlier this season for the week of June 2-8.
