Padres name Geaney director of player development
Oct 23, 2014 - 7:14 PM San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres named Sam Geaney director of player development on Thursday.Geaney, 29, joins the Padres after serving in the Oakland Athletics organization for the past nine seasons and will be responsible for managing all of the Padres' player development efforts, including working with roving coordinators as well as managers and coaches at each of the club's affiliates.
"We're excited to have Sam join our staff," Padres executive vice president/general manager A.J. Preller said. "He has a smart baseball mind and a strong work ethic that will help shape our player development philosophy."
Geaney spent the last three seasons serving as Oakland's coordinator of international scouting. He was in charge of overseeing the scouting and signing of players throughout Latin America and the Pacific Rim.
