O's take Steve Johnson off 40-man roster
Oct 24, 2014 - 7:02 PM Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles outrighted pitcher Steve Johnson to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, removing him from the 40-man roster. The oft-injured Johnson hasn't pitched in the majors since Sept. 27, 2013. He had surgery last month to remove a bone spur from his right pitching shoulder after making a combined 17 starts in three different minor-league levels this year.
Johnson had a strong first season with Baltimore in 2012, going 4-0 in 12 games, including four starts, with a 2.11 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings. He made nine appearances for the O's in 2013, all but one of them out of the bullpen.
