Orioles decline part of option on Markakis' contract
Nov 1, 2014 - 1:11 AM Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles announced Friday that the club has declined their portion of the mutual option on the contract of right fielder Nick Markakis."Nick is a dependable player and the O's would like to continue [their] relationship with him," said Orioles GM Dan Duquette.
Markakis finished the 2014 season with a .276 average, .342 on-base percentage, 14 home runs, 27 doubles and 50 RBI in 155 games.
A nine-year veteran, all with the Orioles franchise, the 30-year-old native of Long Island has compiled a .290 average along with 141 homers, 316 doubles and 658 RBI in 1,365 appearances since 2006.
Earlier in the day, the O's claimed left-handed reliever Patrick McCoy off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.
