Cliff Lee undergoes MRI on elbow
Mar 8, 2015 - 6:44 PM Clearwater, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - A day after his first spring training start, Phillies starter Cliff Lee reported elbow soreness during an off-day workout.Lee, a former Cy Young Award winner, was limited to 13 starts in 2014 due to a strained flexor tendon in his left elbow that led to two stints on the disabled list.
Philadelphia general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said that the examination is precautionary due to Lee's recent history. Lee will miss his next start scheduled for Tuesday against the Tigers.
"Hopefully he'll be able to make his following start, but I'll talk with (pitching coach Bob McClure) and (manager Ryne Sandberg) and with Cliff and we'll see how he feels moving forward to see how altered his schedule will be," Amaro said. "But it will all depend on how he feels when he starts throwing again."
The 36-year-old Lee owns a 143-91 record with a 3.52 ERA over 13 seasons with the Phillies, Cleveland, Texas and Seattle. He has also been named to four All-Star teams.
